The entire state of Florida is divided into five basin groups in which each waterbody is re-assessed on a rotating basis every five years. If a waterbody is assessed as impaired, a TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load) must be developed to determine the maximum amount of a pollutant that a waterbody can receive and remain healthy. Once a TMDL has been completed, the waterbody is removed from the verified list regardless of whether or not the waterbody meets standards.
