On September 24, 1997, the Jacksonville District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued an expanded State Programmatic General Permit (SPGP III). The purpose of the SPGP III was to avoid duplication of permitting between the Corps and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for minor work located in waters of the United States, including navigable waters. Thus, the need for separate approval from the Corps would be mostly eliminated. SPGP IV further increased the efficiency of both State and Federal staff in serving the public. Currently, SPGP IV-R1 has expanded the geographic coverage by including the counties in the panhandle area. Therefore, SPGP IV-R1 will be implemented throughout the entire State of Florida, excluding Monroe County, continuing environmental protection while increasing the service to the public. |
