Description: Paddling Trails Opportunity data represents the vision for a comprehensive water-based trails system. This data includes waterways that are designated as part of the FGTS or are appropriate for future designation. Because water trails are not consistently captured in local and regional planning efforts like land trails typically are, it is important to establish basic criteria for inclusion. Therefore, to be included in the Paddling Trails Opportunity Map, a waterway shall: Represent an existing or potential destination trail that reaches beyond the loca area due to its scenic qualities and diversity of experiences.Be at least three miles in length, preferably longer.Be navigable during the majority of months in a an average year.

Description: The Priority Trails Map (Land) encompasses the most important corridors and connections within the FGTS Land Trails Opportunity Map. The Florida National Scenic Trail (FNST) corridor included on this Priority Trails Map reflects the route currently proposed for designation by the US Forest Service. Whatever FNST route results from the current designation process will be included on the Priority Trails Map. The criteria for priority trails is outlined in the Florida Greenways & Trails System plan: http://www.dep.state.fl.us/gwt/FGTS_Plan/default.htm

Description: This dataset represents the existing, planned and conceptual non-motorized trails that form a land-based trail network of state and regional importance. This map is a synthesis of trail planning efforts being conducted by cities, counties, transportation planning organizations and other agencies and non-profits throughout Florida. This data does not include all existing, proposed and conceptual trails in Florida, but focuses on linear trails of state and regional significance to form a comprehensive connected system. The Land Trails Opportunity data is the state companion to community greenways and trails and bicycle and pedestrian master plans, and encompasses a combination of multiple and single-use trails to accommodate uses such as: walking, hiking, bicycling, mountain biking, horseback riding, skating and wildlife viewing.

Description: <DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>To recognize Florida’s trail towns, the Office of Greenways and Trails (OGT), an important component of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida State Parks system, developed the Florida Trail Town program in 2018. A Trail Town is a vibrant destination where people come together. It is a place where trail users can venture off a hiking, biking, equestrian or paddling trail to enjoy the amenities and unique heritage of the community, benefiting the town economically and socially. To become a Florida trail town, interested communities conduct a self-assessment to gauge their strengths and weaknesses in relation to nearby trails and trail users, working with OGT regional coordinators until they are deemed ready for designation by the Department.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
